Price:
Windows price ranges between $99.00 - $199.00 US dollars for each
licensed copy. The price depends upon the edition of the windows too whether it is Professional or Home Basic. On the other hand Linux with more than 290 distros, most of them are free.
Hardware:
In this case Windows stands as a winner because all hardware is supported in windows but now linux is also getting attention and hardware support is being added.WIndows have larger data base so they get all the hardware support.Security:
Linux is more secure than windows and their is no doubt in it.The Linus's law states that "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow" that is the reason why linux is more secure.Linux is open source when virus attack happens then in matter of hours security patched is issued. On the other hand,if windows is attacked Microsoft take days to issue security patch.
Software:
Linux has a large variety of available software
programs, utilities, and games, but Windows still has a larger
selection of available software. However, software is available for
Linux that mimics some Windows-based software or supports files created
in Windows-based software, like Word and Excel.Windows beats linux in this category because of its market share.Large number of users force developers to make softwares for this platform only.
