          Windows vs Linux(Part One)

 Price:

Windows price ranges between $99.00 - $199.00 US dollars for each licensed copy. The price depends upon the edition of the windows too whether it is Professional or Home Basic. On the other hand Linux with more than 290 distros, most of them are free.

Hardware:

In this case Windows stands as a winner because all hardware is supported in windows but now linux is also getting attention and hardware support is being added.WIndows have larger data base so they get all the hardware support.

Security:

Linux is more secure than windows and their is no doubt in it.The Linus's law states that "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow" that is the reason why linux is more secure.Linux is open source when virus attack happens then in matter of hours security patched is issued. On the other hand,if windows is attacked Microsoft take days to issue security patch.

Software:

Linux has a large variety of available software programs, utilities, and games, but Windows still has a larger selection of available software. However, software is available for Linux that mimics some Windows-based software or supports files created in Windows-based software, like Word and Excel.Windows beats linux in this category because of its market share.Large number of users force developers to make softwares for this platform only.

Stay tuned for part 2...

                            Uses of Linux

Linux is an operating system to run Pc website or any electrical device.
Following are the uses of Linux :
Web Serving:
Nearly 60% of all websites on the Internet are run using an Open Source program named "Apache." Most often, it's run on Linux.
Linux web server is not easy to hack and it can easily bear any DDOS(Denial of Service Shutdown) attack as compared to windows server.
Networking:
Linux is based on Unix, an operating system developed in the 1970s and which is still used heavily today, especially to run the Internet. Linux is used both to run parts of the Internet, as well as to run small and large networks in corporations, offices and homes.
Databases:
Since Linux is stable, secure and robust, it's perfect for storing huge databases of information.
Desktops:
People use Linux on our home and work computers, because of its stability and flexibility.Mostly programmers and  developers use Linux for their work.
Scientific Computing:
Many dozens (or even hundreds or thousands) of Linux systems can be clustered together to work on a single task (like weather forecasting, physics simulations, computer graphics rendering, etc). Most of super computers use Linux as a operating system because of its flexibility, ease in use  and due to its security.
Mobiles:
Android use Linux kernel and earns billions from it.Besides Android Tizan and Ubuntu touch are also based on Linux kernel.

                                Linux
What is Linux?
Linux is an open sourced operating based on Unix.Linux was developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991.Its code was written in C language. Now its kernel code of 18 millions with version 3.18.Linux operating system is widely used in servers, mobiles, desktop pcs and in supercomputers. It is newer than Windows and OS X.
Linux is open source and it contains of distros.Distros are different in use but all share same kernel.Kernel is the part that connects hardware with software and it is the base of linux operating system. On the basis of GUI(Graphical User Interference) distros differ and they also differ in their compilation of Xorg X server (shell). There are nearly 292 disrtos and all are open source.Debian is the oldest and Ubuntu is the most popular among all. Most of distros are based on Debian and Ubuntu.
Why Linux?
Linux is open source and easily available. It is safer and easy in use.It has protection against viruses, malware and worms.Because linux code is updated every day and week so its chances of getting hacked are very low.Linux is better than windows in term of security and in terms of user experience. Most experts prefer linux on windows because of its security.Windows gives one desktop environment whereas in linux you can create your own or have many options.

Linux is also hardware freindly. It is lightweight that it can run on p4 to core i7.It requires less pc resources than that of windows.A linux based operating system can run on 512Mb of ram whereas Windows(7 and afterwards)requires ram of 1Gb minimum.
Window don't give users many options on the other hand Linux gives you options of every thing you can do with it.In Windows you are bound to Microsoft in most things whereas in Linux that is not the case you can do any thing. For example,Debian is the oldest distro of Linux and more than 100 distros are based on it.
